Signing three agreements with Romania in the conclusion of Romanian delegation's visit to Syria. [1]

On Tuesday 24 June, 2008, in the Ministry of Finance with the presence of Dr. Mohammed al-Hussein, Minister of Finance and head of Syrian side in the Syrian –Romanian joint committee, Dr. Amer Lutfi, Minister of Economy, and Dr. Varujan Vosganian, Romanian Minister of Economy and Finance and head of Romanian side in the joint committee, three agreements has been signed with Romania including the Agreement of encouraging and protecting investment, the Agreement of avoiding the double taxation and the Agreement of exempting the diplomatic missions in both countries from the Value Added Tax (VAT). On Tuesday 24 June, 2008, in the Ministry of Finance with the presence of Dr. Mohammed al-Hussein, Minister of Finance and head of Syrian side in the Syrian –Romanian joint committee, Dr. Amer Lutfi, Minister of Economy, and Dr. Varujan Vosganian, Romanian Minister of Economy and Finance and head of Romanian side in the joint committee, three agreements has been signed with Romania including the Agreement of encouraging and protecting investment, the Agreement of avoiding the double taxation and the Agreement of exempting the diplomatic missions in both countries from the Value Added Tax (VAT). \
Dr. al-Hussein expressed his pleasure with signing these agreements, and thanked the delegations and embassies of both countries. He added that the agreement of exempting the diplomatic missions in both countries from the VAT is unique, and the signature expressed the deep friendship between Syria and Romania, the Minister announced that the meeting of Syrian-Romanian joint committee will be hold in the next August and September, besides this meeting it is also decided to hold the forum of Syrian and Romanian businessmen.
From his side, Dr. Amer Hussni Lutfi, Minister of Economy, wished the Syrian and Romanian relations to achieve more success as well as the works of the joint committee, he also wished to increase the rates of commercial exchange between the two countries.
In his speech, Dr. Vosganian thanked the Syrian officers for their friendly reception and he expressed his pleasure with this cooperation saying:
These agreement has signed in a very important date because the both countries started a comprehensive reforms operation in all fields. He added: when the discussions start with EU, these agreement will be enhanced; consequently, the traffic movement will be easier and most of customs barriers will be cancelled to facilitate crossing the persons, goods and products.
The Romanian minister pointed out that there are thousands of Syrians in Romania established more than five thousands companies, which have a positive role in strengthening the relations between the two countries. He added that Romania is considered the opened window before Syria towards the EU as well as Syria is considered the window of Romania towards the Middle east, so Syria opened the doors before Romania towards 350 million Arab persons. Finally, Dr. Vosganian wished the Syrian and Romanian relations to reach the high level of cooperation as they were previously.
Dr. Vosganian mentioned that he visited Syria in 1993, but he recently noticed the great reforms in the Free Market like establishing the principle of free competition and the openness before the foreign investments, and he pointed to the marked reforms in the fields of communication, banking infrastructure and Insurance, as well as the reforms of railways and roads.
This signature was attended from the Syrian side by Deputy of Finance Minister for Taxes and Duties, Deputy of Economy Minister, General Director of Taxes and Duties Authority and the Syrian Ambassador to Romania, while it was attended from the Romanian side by Minister of State who is responsible of the relations in Parliament, Deputy of finance Minister, General Director of Prospecting Administration in the Ministry of Finance and a number of the interested in the Ministry.
