cooperation with the project of development and modernization of Ministry of Finance, and delegation of European Commission in Syria, an identification symposium on rules of origin held on Monday 22/10/2007 in the Meridian hotel
Dr. Rateb al-Shalah, head of Syrian Center for Business and Institutions, head of Syrian Union of Commerce Chambers, discussed the singed agreements between Syria and European Union Nations, which facilitate Syrian export’s entry to European market. He pointed to the procedures that may be taken in order to promote the Syrian productions outside. Dr. al-Shalah assured Syria’s interest in enhancing the cooperation with European Union.
Head of economical and political department in delegation of European Commission in Syria, Mr. Louik Lalman Zieller, referred to European Union’s support for some projects in Syria, and the offer of five million Euro to develop the operations of Public Customs Directorate. He also referred to the importance of respecting the rules of origin, which enhance the relations between Syria and European Union.
Mr. Fadi Hamady, director of Origin Department in Public Customs, talked about the courses and qualifying symposiums of this department, which organized for employers in this field to fill the needs of work. As well as Mr. Hamady said that the department’s concern is currently on activating the Syrian exports in European Union market.
Also the symposium discussed many topics concerning the rules of origin of Syrian goods that exported to European Union.
Mr. Louk Growman, head of Origin Rules Unit in European Union, talked about the importance of the rules of origin and its applying method, and he talked about the special treatment that Syria has in European market. He also referred to the penalties of breach the rules of origin.
Mrs. Paula Mazarini, administrative assistance in Origin Rules Unit in European Union, referred to the difference between the cooperation agreement between Syria and European Union for year 1977 and generalized priorities system; and the conditions that should be undertaken by the exporter when adopting one of them to enter the European market.
