Dr. Mohammed al-Hussein answered the press inquiries about Minister of Finance decision which was supposed to be increasing the exit fee on the Syrian as following:
Decisions of Ministry of Finance considered to be execution of legislative decree No. 31 dated 15/5/2008 issued by Mr. President Bashar al-Assad , and prepared by Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Transport which will come into force starting from 1July ,2008 .
To be more clear, please acknowledge the difference in the mentioned legislative decree as the following :

Consequently , this decision is considered to be a benefit to Syrian travelers …so the difference is including non-Syrian travelers with exit fee amounting /500/S.P as exit from land and sea access, while they pay /1500/ S.P as exit from the airport.
This legislative decree allows Cabinet to amend these fees and exempted persons( ex. Diplomats ,children less than 10years, public cars drivers and their assistances, trains drivers ,planes & ships captains and their crews) in the light of reciprocity principle.
Legislative decree aimed at replace a new form instead of the form of exit fee card.
Now we are working with Minister of Transport to collect the exit fee in the airport through adding it in the fly tickets ,so that the travelers would be more comfortable since they won't pay it during their travels in the airport. Ministry of Finance is ready to apply this new form when Ministry of Transport is ready to do. We think that placing better form of exit fee by land& see and collecting this fee with the value of ticket within airports will take more time ,so it won't be valid in 1/7/2008 ,it may need three months plus. Consequently, we keep utilizing the known form of exit fee card after printing new cards according to new fees and circulating them to all board access ,airports and ports.
We would like to bring to your attention that the travelers by air all around the world pay the taxes and fees added to the ticket price, so that the tourism and reservation offices transfer these taxes to the treasury .
