 The Syrian-Ukrainian Joint Committee meets in Damascus and signs a number of agreements and memorandums

The Syrian-Ukrainian Joint Committee has met in its sixth round in 9 October, 2008 in the premise of Finance Ministry headed by Dr. Muhammad Al-Hussein, Minister of Finance; Head of Committee for the Syrian side and Mr. Oleksandr Turchinov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Head of Committee for the Ukrainian side accompanied by a delegation of more than ten deputy ministers from the sectors of economy, agriculture, housing and construction, tourism, industry, transport, communication, petroleum, gas, youth and family and foreign affairs…
An eight agreements and a number of memorandums were signed between Syria and Ukraine including cooperation in economic, customs, commercial, industrial, scientific, technical, legal areas, as well as in construction and transport (sea and land). Click more…

Headed by Dr. Muhammad Al-Hussein, Minister of Finance, the Head of Committee for the Syrian side and Mr. Oleksandr Turchinov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Head of Committee for the Ukrainian side, eight agreements and memorandums were signed between Syria and Ukraine in 9 October, 2008 in the Ministry of Finance. Hereinafter the agreements and memorandums:
-          A memorandum between the Foreign Trade Institution of Ukraine (Tasco Export) and the General Organization for Cereals Production and Trade was signed from the Syrian side by Mr. Suliman Al-Naser, General Director, and Mr. Petro Stetachin, the Institution's Director, from the Ukrainian side.
-          The prime system of the work group for the Ukrainian-Syrian Joint Committee in the industrial aspect was signed from the Syrian side by Dr. Rashad Al-Essah, Deputy Minister of Industry, and Dr. Viktor Padalko, Deputy Minister of Industrial Policy, from the Ukrainian side.
-          The Protocol of second meeting for the Syrian-Ukrainian Nautical Joint Committee was signed from the Syrian side by Dr. Emad Al-Din Abd Al Hai, Deputy Minister of Transport, and Mr. Volodymyr Rabotniov, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication.
-          A memorandum on Water and Sanitation was signed from the Syrian side by Dr. Kamal Al-Sheikhah, Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction, and Mr. Sergy Zimin, Deputy Minister of Housing, from the Ukrainian side.
-          A memorandum on housing and construction areas was signed from the Syrian side by Dr. Kamal Al-Sheikhah, Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction, and Mr. Oleksandr Gorin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, from the Ukrainian side.
-          The protocol of cooperation in exchanging the customs statistics of foreign trade between the two countries was signed from the Syrian side by Mr. Nabil Al-Syouri, General Director of Customs, and from the Ukrainian side Mr. Oleksandr Gorin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
-          An agreement on legal relations and mutual legal assistance in civilian and criminal causes was signed from the Syrian side by the Judge Mr. Muhammad Al-Ghafri, Minister of Justice, and Mr. Oleksandr Turchinov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, from the Ukrainian side.
-          The protocol of sixth round of The Syrian-Ukrainian Joint Committee for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation was signed by the Syrian side Dr. Muhammad Al-Hussein, Minister of Finance, and from Ukrainian side Mr. Oleksandr Turchinov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Head of Committee.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Hussein declared, after signing the agreements and memorandum, that these agreements consider a new addition to the current legislation frame between both countries, which will effect positively on developing the economic relations especially  the trade exchange which will reach by the end of this year to $ /1/ billion after multiplying it five times since establishing the committee in 2002.
Dr. Al-Hussein also pointed out that, during the business of this round of the Syrian-Ukrainian Joint Committee, Syria focuses on facilitating the access of Syrian products to Ukraine. With respect to the importance of this issue in addition to the frailty of the Ukrainian trade balance, there has been a special committee in order to study the possibility of creating a free Syrian-Ukrainian zone in the coming future, which will a positive factor in developing the economic relations, where this issue will be under analysis taking into consideration the Syrian and Ukrainian commitments towards Arabian trade free zone and the European union market, looking forward that this step will help improving bilateral collaboration especially for increasing the Syrian exports to Ukrainian.
From his side, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, asserted the importance of signing these eight inclusive cooperative memorandums, agreements and protocols in various areas for cooperation between both courtiers, noting that the sixth round of the Joint Committee has given strength to relations of both countries and people.
Also Mr. Turchinov added that: what we are looking for is a long term partnership, for which Syria is the most secured partner for Ukraine, having in mind that signing these agreements open wide horizons of fruitful cooperation in many domains.
Also he considered the juridical agreements as the base stone between both Ministries of Justice in the two countries, which will help the security forces and juridical supplies in both countries, starting from their common stance of fighting crime.
From his side, Minister Al-Ghafari asserted that this agreement not only contribute to juridical cooperation but also it helps investors and Syrian-Ukrainian businessmen at saving rights and proceeding with the same manner in both Syria and Ukraine.
Mr. Turchinov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, has arrived Damascus on Wednesday evening 8 October, 2008, where Minister of Finance, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hussein welcomed him, in addition to both Ambassadors of Syria –Damascus and Ukraine- Kiev.
Dr. Al-Hussein, During the opening session which was held at morning, assured that the agreements that are to be signed will form an important addition to the strong legislative frame concerning the economic relations between Syria and Ukraine, which will improve the economic and trade relations in one way or another. Also His Excellency viewed the trade exchange volume between Syria and Ukraine increases annually, pointing out that after establishing the Committee at 2002, the trade exchange rate has increased from $ 200 million reaching $1billion, and this increase is still going on.
From his side, Mr. Turchinov confirmed that bilateral relation between Syria and Ukraine is witnessing a rapid improvement of agreements and memorandums that are to be singed in the future, which will form a strong base to improve the relations between two countries in the future.
The Syrian delegation headed by the Minister of Finance has pointed out for two essential points while discussing with the Ukrainian side: first; was the importance of facilitating the access of Syrian products into Ukraine, second; manner of treatment in the Ukrainian land towards Syrian people either were students or businessmen.
Also the Joint Committee discussed and called for cooperation and investment in the field of solar energy, also in other field of oil, gas, electric power and other fields…
